Aunt Gloria, Aunt Mollie, Lloyd, Aunt Eleanor, and my dear Mom, Eve. Lunch for 50 of my relatives, prepared by Lloyd in our kitchen on Saltaire Avenue.
Aunt Eleanor found Lloyd’s Spanish hat he used when singing in Night Clubs, before “Room 222.” My mother and her sisters, all great ladies and cooks, entertained frequently, but Lloyd was the first man in the family to cook for them. Lloyd’s relaxed talent for putting a meal captivated them, but they were dazzled by his ability to talk and entertain with stories while the kitchen. Ordinarily, in our family the men started a poker game, while the women prepared the meal, then they would all play cards after dinner. Not this wild day, everyone joined in, stirring the food, cleaning dishes taking charge over anything Lloyd needed. So much fun!!
