“I came into the world at a time when children were not allowed to question but were to do as they were told. I still get upset about kids raised with fear. Fear was a big part of our life back then, even when asking questions about our relatives. The educational system, in a sense, offered no encouragement, at least to the black students and based their teaching on fear also. Kids were so afraid they’d never ask a teacher why. I was a terrible student with a C average. I lost interest in school as a young boy because of the way they taught. They could whip you in those days.222-grounds-2
